Wagner blows one game, Mets win big the next

Published by jthm at 3:50 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Billy Wagner seems to have a knack for blowing  leads this season, and once again he delivers allowing the D-backs to rally for a 5-4 victory over the Mets in Shea Stadium. Johan Santana had pitched 7 shutout innings, and received four runs from the offense, but it still was not enough to hold on thanks to Wagner. Wagner himself said that he just stinks right, and has won the Eric Gagne award for the 2008 season. The Mets may seriously have to consider trading one of their bats for some relief pitching, otherwise they will miss the playoffs or lose in the first round. Although the Thursday game was more of the same from the Mets, Fridays game went a lot smoother to say the least. The Texas Rangers came to town looking to go over .500 for the first time in awhile. Oliver Perez, who has been the most consistent starting pitcher for the Mets, fell victim to a Josh Hamilton home run in the top of the first. Thankfully, that was not a sign of things to come for, and it was the only run allowed as the Mets rolled for a 7-1 victory yesterday. Marlon ended his 23 at bat hitless streak with a run scoring single, and Willie Randolph can breath easy for another night. Hopefully this will awaken the Mets from their funk that has plagued them since last season, but then again maybe reluctance to excellence is their mantra. Trot Nixon was acquired by the Mets from the D-backs for cash considerations and a player to be named later. Nixon the former Red Sox standout is a career .275 hitter with solid defense in left field, but he still cannot hit lefties to save his life. This move was necessary as Moises Alou and Ryan Church are on the DL, and have no chance of coming back anytime soon.
